Research Faculty

Research Faculty make up around 8% of all bargaining unit members for NTFC local #6546.  These Research (Assistant/Associate) Professors are particularly numerous in the sciences and engineering.

Research faculty are engaged in long-term research projects and are often hired as part of these projects funded by outside grants. Some research faculty raise their own grant money to fund their salaries.  They also supervise and advise postdocs, graduate and undergraduate students as part of their research obligations. Some research faculty also teach courses.

Research faculty have the terminal degree in their field, usually a Ph.D.  Research faculty often work on twelve-month, year-to-year contracts.  But their contract length might be longer or shorter, depending on their source of funding.
