Executive Officer Elections Apr 17-21, 2017

Elections of Officers of the Executive Committee will be held from April 17-21, 2017.

An online ballot was made available starting Monday April 17.

If you did not receive your ballot via email, please check your spam folder (or Promotions folder) to see if it might be there. If it isn’t, please Contact Us.  We will send you another ballot.

The candidates for each position and their profiles are listed below.

Only one position – vice-president – is contested.

Candidate Profiles

Kay Emmert

Kay Emmert is running for President of NTFC. She is a lecturer in the department of English and teaches courses in writing. Kay served as lead negotiator for our first union collective bargaining agreement. She has been the chair of the bargaining research committee for the last 3 years. If elected president, Kay’s goal will be to support the growth of our various committees and new leaders. By the time her term finishes she intends to leave the union stronger than when she found it.

 


Sarah Feldman
Sara Feldman is running for Vice President of NTFC.  Sara is a Lecturer in the Program in Jewish Culture and Society teaching Yiddish and Hebrew language. After attending bargaining sessions and being a strike captain last year, she is currently a member of the Communications Committee doing social media and writing for our newsletter.She has also been working on solidarity including the initial steps towards forming a solidarity committee. As Vice President she would continue to attend Campus Labor Council meetings as well as Champaign County AFL-CIO meetings and continue to build solidarity between NTFC, the student body, and the campus and local communities.

 


Christina De Angelo

Shawn Gilmore

Shawn Gilmore is running for Secretary of NTFC. He is a senior lecturer in the department of English and teaches courses in literary studies and writing. Shawn served as the union’s first President for the past two and a half years, chaired the Executive Council, guided the union through its first three years (including a strike and settling our first collective bargaining agreement), among other things. As Secretary, Shawn would like to regularize our records, work on clarifying information, and ensure that our members have a clear sense of what the union does.

 


Matt Goodman 

Matt Goodman is running for reelection to be Treasurer of NTFC. He is currently a lecturer in the Materials Science and Engineering Department. Over the past year, Matt has worked on the first implementation of the dues structure. If reelected, he wants to continue his work on the dues structure, regarding correct implementation, communication with affiliates and members, and maintaining the solvency of the union.


David Gooler

Joe Grohens

Joe Grohens is running for Chair of the Communications Committee. Joe is an instructor in the department of English teaching in the Program for Professional Writing. Previously Joe worked in technical publishing in the software industry. Joe has served in the past year as NTFC Secretary and was the managing editor of the NTFC website and the NTFC News and Notes newsletter. If elected chair of the Communications Committee, Joe will aspire to maintain union consciousness of issues that are relevant to members, to support recruitment and engagement, and to provide needed information to members in ways that are brief and efficient.


Cindy Wachter

Cindy Wachter is running for Bargaining Research Committee Chair.  She has been a lecturer in the Department of Recreation, Sport and Tourism since 2001.  She attended bargaining sessions last spring as we negotiated our first contract and has also contributed to the Bargaining Research report on Visiting Faculty.  If elected Bargaining Research Committee Chair she intends to provide leadership in the identification of and recommended improvements to the working conditions most important to the bargaining unit.
