Vote for Executive Committee Officers – Starting April 16!

BE SURE TO VOTE!

Elections for NTFC Executive Committee Officers will be held from April 16-23, 2018.

All card-signed members will receive an online ballot by email on April 16.

All card-signed members of NTFC Local #6546 are encouraged to vote. If you have not yet signed a membership card, you can arrange to do so by contacting your Steward, or contacting us by email, or by telephone at 217-318-0042.

The following positions will be elected:

  • President
  • Vice-President
  • Secretary
  • Treasurer
  • Bargaining Research Chair
  • Grievance Committee Chair
  • Communications and Publications Chair

These positions are described in Article V of our Constitution. Officer terms are for one year, and limited to two consecutive years in any particular office.

Upcoming election: SURS Board of Trustees

The following letter comes from the Illinois Federation of Teachers (IFT). IFT endorses Steve Rock for election to the SURS Board of Trustees.

Dear IFT Higher Education Member,

I want to talk to you about an important election that starts today and directly impacts your retirement security.

April 2 through May 1, active members of the State Universities Retirement System (SURS) can choose who will serve on the SURS Board of Trustees.The IFT urges you to vote for Steve Rock.

Steve Rock is an economics professor at Western Illinois University and a member of the University Professionals of Illinois (IFT Local 4100). He has served as a SURS trustee since 2015, and he needs your support for re-election.

As a fellow unionist and member of the Faculty Advisory Board of the Illinois Board of Higher Education (IBHE), Steve Rock understands the issues and concerns of the higher education community. For the last three years as a SURS trustee, Steve has worked to:

  • Address the underfunding of the system and improve SURS’ stability
  • Fight unfair, unconstitutional proposals that would harm SURS members
  • Educate lawmakers and the public about legislative solutions
  • Explore ways to fix the concerns with Tier 2

If you have not yet received it, watch for information soon from SURS with details about how to vote.

As a member of the SURS Board of Trustees, Steve Rock will represent your best interests when important decisions are made about your pension. I strongly encourage you to vote for Steve Rock before May 1.

School Supplies Drive A Success

Did you know that the average teacher spends $500 out of pocket on school supplies each year?  Members at NTFC were not surprised by that and understand the daunting task of being an educator and decided to step up and help out local school teachers and students.

During November and December, NTFC’s school supplies drive collected $450 worth of school supplies contributed by union members and others in the university community. NTFC matched the $450 in school supplies such as binders, notebooks, crayons, highlighters, flash drives and more.

Kay Emmert, president, and Dennis Dullea, Head Steward,  presented the supplies last Monday, December 18th to three local schools: MLK Elementary, Wiley Elementary and Urbana Adult Education. The teachers and administrators expressed their gratitude.

Arlene Anderson, the director of Urbana Adult Education, followed via email with a kind thank you note:

On behalf of Urbana Adult Education Center (UAEC), I would like to Thank You for wonderful donation of school supplies and the much needed color printer. We have large numbers of students who attend our classes and are in need of paper, pencils, markers, notebooks, etc.  We are so appreciative to receive these items and want you to know how grateful we are, especially during this holiday season.
